Micro-Board Movement
The Micro-board movement is shaking up the way we
support people with disabilities in Illinois. Micro-board is
a new approach to self determination and community
based involvement utilizing the strengths and will of the
person with disability as well as the social capital developed
over the person’s lifetime. Wendy Partridge of Rockford,
state wide coordinator for the Illinois Micro-Boards will be
our speaker on the Micro-board movement. Come and join
us for a new look at an antiquated system. (JM)

Employment Opportunities for People
with Disabilities
Employment for people with disabilities is probably one of
the major concerns families have. We will host a panel of
people from three different companies who literally dug in
to create employment opportunities for their children with
disabilities: We Grow Dreams, Big Beads, and Shredagator.
We Grow Dreams is a family sprouted venture where
people with disabilities have the opportunity to earn
a paycheck, develop important job skills, work in the
community, and sell high quality plant life. We Grow
Dreams was founded by three Naperville families,
each with a child who has disabilities. Lori Staple is the
executive director of the grass roots organization in West
Chicago. She will share the mission and the good work
that is done year round at the greenhouse.
Big Beads was designed by two mothers whose daughters
loved jewelry and knew they could earn money. Kelly
Neville and Rachel Myrna have been having a blast selling
their wares all over the Chicago area.
Luke Koupal is the Shredagator. He will talk about how
and why he got into the shredding business. (JM)
